When training a dog it is wise to remember that less is more. An adult dog generally has an effective attention span of 10-15 minutes when it comes to learning new commands and a puppy has a shorter span of around 5 minutes.
Trying to teach a dog new commands or tricks outside of their effective attention span is counter-productive to producing the required outcome.
Walking a dog before training is also a great idea as this allows a dog to both relieve itself and work off any excess exuberance.
